Johou Battle 1.1.1 released! Happy 1st Anniversary!


One year later, and better than ever!

A year ago today, on November 4th 2023, Johou Battle was first released! The released definitely wasn't perfect, I remember having to dive back into the code to quickly rush out the 1.0.8 update to fix the game not saving as often as it should, and even a crash! Good times good times. But now, after 9 months of reflection, I'm back again to honor the game's 1st Anniversary with another update, this time fixing some more bugs, syntax errors, and sliiiiight adjustments to scoring and gameplay. Despite the version number not being much higher, a lot was changed!

Of course, this means that replays recorded on versions prior to 1.1.1 will not be compatible with this update.

Changelog Version 1.1 -> Version 1.1.1

  • System
    -Fixed a bug where if you set the game to a language that wasn't English, then opened the game again later, the game would remain in English until you went to the Options menu
  • Score
    -It is no longer possible to have a negative score. If it would ever go below 0, it is now set to 0.
  • Stage Clear Bonus
    -It is no longer possible to be awarded negative points
    This system was originally put in place to further penalize using Continues and Bombing, but with how it could resulted in the above negative scores from those still learning the game, this penalty has been removed. If you would have gotten a negative bonus before, the game now simply states “NO BONUS” and you aren’t granted any additional points.
  • Hi Score
    -Corrected a few dates on the Default Scores 
    These will only take effect if you did not already have a save file.
  • Game Over
    Fixed the options not displaying correctly when the Language is set to Japanese
  • Player Characters (Ichirin and Jotaro both)
    -Fixed a bug where in certain circumstances, you could use a Bomb when a Bomb was already active
    -Fixed a bug where most instances your Bomb’s natural cooldown would override the boss saying “no you can’t bomb right now just give me a sec” resulting in potentially bombing while they are invulnerable.
  • Ichirin Kumoi (Player)
    -Increased the volume of Unzan's spawn SFX
    -The bomb attack will now have left and right hands (this is purely an aesthetic change)
    -Unzan and the hitbox indicator can no longer spawn in or out while Jotaro stops time
    -The hitbox indicator will now stay at its current rotation when time is stopped, instead of snapping back to the default position
  • Jotaro Kujo (Player)  
    -
    His unfocused bullets will now only have a trial effect one frame after being fired
  • Jotaro Kujo (Boss)  
    -
    Stand Attack 2: Breath of Justice
    The above change with the marble bullets are applied here as well
    -Stand Attack 3: THE WORLD
    The tarot card in the background will properly change to grayscale when time is stopped
  • Other
    Fixed various syntax errors
    Removed unused network connection code in an effort to reduce false positives.

-Fixed the player being able to Bomb earlier than intended

-Fixed a sprite fill error on her hood removing sprite

-Fixed the the Final Phase's Move Left animation having the wrong shoe color for one frame

-Nazrin no longer spawns or retreats while THE WORLD is active
-Spell background now loops 2 frames earlier

Kakyoin Noriaki
-Standardized the hitbox widths of all his animations (52 pixels wide)
20 Meter Emerald Splash
-The strand that appears behind him to escape the bomb now properly appears behind him
-Kakyoin now leaves and returns much quicker than he had before
-Fixed a bug where, after returning from escaping a bomb, he would not fire off another Emerald Splash until he reset the web

Kyouko Kasodani
-Fixed a sprite fill error in& her Attack 1 Sprite
Mountainside Concert ~ Echoes in Three Acts
-Bullets inside their spawn& bubbles can no longer be destroyed or grayscaled by THE WORLD
-Kyouko will now properly stop playing the broom swinging SFX while THE WORLD is active

Jean Pierre Polnareff
Silver Chariot ARMOR OFF
-When a bomb is active, Polnereff now properly refuses to tell his SC Armors to make bullets rather than tell them to constantly make them, which would have severely punished the player for bombing
-Fixed various issues with the final Sword Launch attack, from the path not working properly to dying invisible deaths. These have all been fixed and this attack now functions as intended.

Endings
-
Fixed Star Platinum's JP name being written in kanji instead of katakana

Profiles
-Changed Pin Clock's origin film from "Pin Clock's Scatman" to its original name, "Welcome Pin Clock"



While development on my next game hasn't began yet (I have some other urgent business I gotta wrap up before I do), I'm still proud to have made Johou Battle, as it has really taught me a lot. I'll always treasure this silly little crossover fangame. This really should be it this time, but who knows, maybe if more bugs are found, I'll put out another fix if it's big enough!
